Phase I: Preparing the Cocoon

Days 1- 7

Get Organized! This first phase involves getting organized, planning, weaning and reflecting. Intentionally bid farewell to ways of eating, being and relating that do not serve and open yourself to how you want to feel.

Step 1: Gather Supplies

  • Gather markers, a journal, an essential oil (sandalwood, lavender or vetiver), an inspiring book and a nurturing playlist – that which you will reach for instead of technology or other distractions. (Daily tech fast 8pm - 8am.) For many people, the tech fast becomes the most revelatory and nourishing part of Renewal. Instead of scrolling, you might read. Doodle. Write a card to a dear friend. Sit and talk with your people or pets. Go to bed early. Drink a cup of tea. Breathe. Simply, be.

Step 2: Wean from inflammatory & processed foods

  • Begin to wean from caffeine, sugars, dairy and processed foods. Reduce your intake by 1⁄2 on day one, and reduce that intake by 1⁄2 again on day two. Consume a very small amount of the items on the elimination list, if any, from day three onward.

Step 3: Lighten Up!

  • Clean out cupboards and drawers, and give away possessions that no longer carry value. Spring asks us to lighten up - physically and mentally. Open the windows, if only slightly, on a bright, warm day and let the fresh air flow in. Sweep the house clean of winter’s residue. Bring in cut flowers or herbs - thyme, rosemary, oregano - to cleanse and brighten your space.

Step 4: Plan your schedule for the coming weeks!

For many, meal prep & planning may be the most challenging aspect. Consider the following questions in this first phase:

  • Which day(s) will you meal plan? Which day(s) will you shop?

  • Which day(s) will you cook?

  • Where will you take a nature wander?

  • Familiarize yourself with all of the local farmers markets.

Step 5: The nitty-gritty of eating

Many people are concerned about what they will eat. This step helps you organize yourself and see how much delicious food awaits.
